I love the King Arthur Flour website. There are literally hundreds of recipes.

I was at the Yardbird in Miami this past February and had the most amazing biscuits. It inspired me to make my own biscuits.

These were pretty quick and you only need to allow for the thirty minutes in the freezer.

Roasted Beets

I love to roast beets and use them as a vegetable of put them in a salad.

Tonight I am making a large salad for dinner so the beets will be added with everything else. The leftovers will keep for a quite a while in the fridge.

Preheat your oven to 400 F or 375 F for convection.

Wash and trim the beets.

Cut them so that they are as uniform in size as possible. You want them to cook at the same time.

Place the beets on a sheet of aluminum foil and drizzle with olive oil. Add salt and pepper to taste along with a few sprigs of fresh thyme. Seal the foil and place in a casserole dish. I find that some liquid always escapes the foil packet so I use the casserole dish to avoid having to clean my oven.

Roast for approximately one hour or until fork-tender.







New Orchid

Yesterday I received a beautiful orchid for Mother’s Day. I decided I want to display it differently from what I usually do.

Here it is surrounded by two hyacinths. I chose white hyacinths so they would compete with the delicacy of the orchid.



On April 2, 2012 I posted my cheesecake recipe. I made it today for Mother’s Day and I made a chocolate ganache which I poured on top.

It takes it up a notch and makes it even more special.

The ganache recipe is as follows:

3 ounces of chopped semi-sweet chocolate
2.5 ounces of unsalted butter
1 tbsp corn syrup

Melt chocolate and butter on medium in microwave. Add corn syrup and whisk until smooth.

Pour over cooled cheesecake and spread evenly.


Why I Love a Wreath

I was driving home from Whole Foods this afternoon and spotted this wreath at one of my favorite flowers shops. Of course I had to stop and buy it.

I have a front door in need of replacement and at least this will make it look beautiful throughout the summer.

I always change my front door wreaths with the seasons, but I am going to hate to take this one down in the fall.

The owner of the shop told me when it starts to look tired, I can bring it back for a “face lift”.



I am baking a birthday cake this afternoon and the recipe including the frosting is on three different pages in the book.

A few years ago my daughters gave me this mini post-its. They are perfect for a recipe like this since I don’t waste a lot time flipping through the book trying to find each recipe as I need it. They came from Anthropologie.
